Telehealth Services
In response to COVID-19 as well as to those that are homebound for other reasons, Spirit of Peace Clinical Counseling offers Telehealth services to support our clients located within the State of Ohio. This includes both telephone and video conference sessions as clients prefer. Our phone system and video conference platform (similar to Skype or Zoom) is HIPAA compliant. With video conferencing, clients can interact with their therapist real time using their mobile device or computer with microphone and webcam. All you need is a strong internet signal and your therapist will email a link for you to join the session. That’s it!
Considerations and limitations:
While Telehealth can be just as effective as face to face counseling in treating several struggles such as anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and marital conflict, it is not ideal for everyone. Some may consider it less personable. There are more severe struggles and even age considerations that may require more traditional counseling. For example, video conferencing can be helpful when doing “check ins” with kids, but not always conducive to ongoing therapy which limits play therapy and other therapeutic modalities. Engaging in therapy by telephone or video sessions has a wide range of benefits, but you should also be aware of the limitations of the use of technology to conduct personal therapy. These include but are not limited to:
- Potential for loss of electronic connection, thereby disrupting your therapeutic process. A strong internet connection is needed for video sessions.
- Less ability to see important characteristics in communication such as detailed facial expressions or non-verbal gestures which are normally present in an in-person session.
- Potential for the clinician or client to misunderstand important cultural nuances.
- Complications in obtaining support in the event of an emergency. Clinicians will make every effort to contact your local emergency services or emergency contact(s) provided by you in the new client paperwork and the E-therapy consent form. Since the therapist is trying to accomplish this at a distance, it may be more complicated than it would be in a clinical office setting.
- Potential limits in privacy in the end user environment. Spirit of Peace Clinical Counseling maintains the security and privacy of our software, phone and internet connections, and office space, but cannot guarantee the security and privacy of your software, phone and internet connections, or meeting space.
Although most major insurance companies and EAP’s cover Telehealth Therapy, it is the client’s responsibility to ensure coverage. If it is not a covered service by your plan, a reduced fee may apply. Please contact us with further questions and/or scheduling at 614-442-7650 ext. 00.
